iPad Applications


The results of the assessments will allow teachers to differentiate instruction while incorporating technology depending on each student’s strengths and needs.  The following is a list of applications that can help children with the writing process.
Applications for Improving Student Achievement

Students who struggle with correct letter formation:
Alphabet Tracing (Free) Follow the animations and write the letters.

I can write ($1.29) This app will allow students to practice forming letters following animations. 

iWriteWords ($2.99) Children learn to write letters while playing a fun and interactive game. 

Students who do not have letter recognition:
Feed Me (Free) 26 simple ABC questions.

Snail Alphabet ($.99) Helps children develop their pre-reading skills while learning the alphabet. They will learn to identify letters, spell words and learn about the different colors.

Dot to Dot Number Whiz ($1.29) Teaches counting and/or alphabetical order.

Letter Finder ($.99) Find the letters and practice letter identification.

Alphabetic ($2.59) Find all the letters of the alphabet in order from the mixed up letters. Challenging and fun!

Students who do not know letters and/or sounds:
Abc PocketPhonics ($2.59) Teaches the letter sounds of the alphabet, plus Blends. Practice writing the letters is included as well.

Mr. Thorne Does Phonics ($7.99) A collection of over 70 exclusive literacy lessons for children, parents, teachers and anyone learning to read English, using the phonics approach to learning to read.

Phonics Made Easy Flash Action ($4.99) Children will explore beginning and ending letter sounds, distinguish between long and short vowel sounds, pinpoint the rhyming families, work with letter blends, and more.

RedFish 4 kids ($6.49) Practice with letters and sounds.

Students who need more training in constructing sentences:
Chicktionary (Free) Word games. 

Juxio (Free) Add a photo and text.  *Students who cannot construct sentences begin by learning to label pictures.  Children could add a photo and label it. 

Sentence Builder ($3.99) Designed to help elementary aged children learn how to build grammatically correct sentences.


Students who construct sentence(s) independently, these are applications for publishing.
StoryKit (Free) Create electronic storybooks.
Magnetic Alphabet ($2.59) Use the letters to publish your story and screen capture to Photo library.

Chalkboard ($1.29) Write and draw with colored chalk on a realistic looking blackboard. Save your creation as a picture.

Toontastic ($1.29) Draw, animate and share cartoons.

Lifecards ($2.59) Make postcards with your photos add text and speech bubbles. Use templates and themes.
